Ms. Martinelli was born in Oakland, California. Being from a military family, she had the opportunity to live in many different places during her childhood, winding up in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she attended college. She graduated with distinction from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and History in 1980. She then returned to California to pursue her law degree at Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles where she graduated Cum Laude in 1983. She was on the Dean’s List during all three years of law school and was also named to Who’s Who Among American College and University Students. She won American Jurisprudence Book Awards in the fields of Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, and Labor Law as well as several law school awards for academic achievement.
She was one of the youngest attorneys admitted to the California Bar when she was admitted in 1983. Since that time, she has gained extensive experience in civil litigation defense with particular practice emphasis in employment law, medical malpractice and other healthcare litigation. Over the years, she has represented hospitals, medical and dental schools, and extended care facilities, as well as individual medical doctors, chiropractors, podiatrists and dentists. She has taken a number of these cases to trial and has been successful in obtaining defense verdicts for her clients. Ms. Martinelli also defends general liability action on behalf of a wide variety of clients
In addition to litigation, Ms Martinelli serves as an advisor to several of her institutional clients on issues of corporate compliance, employee relations, advance directives, end-of-life consent issues and liability avoidance practices.
When not engaged in defending her clients, Ms. Martinelli is an active supporter of the arts in Los Angeles including The Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Hollywood Bowl and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Her other personal interests include reading, travel, and creative writing.
