Rittu Kumar
Ms. Kumar received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management and Organization from the University of Southern California in 1999 where she earned the distinction of Trustee Scholar and was a member of Alpha Lambda Delta. While at the University of Southern California, she also founded the Business Scholar Society where she served as Vice-President. Ms. Kumar received her law degree from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles in 2002. While at Loyola Law School, she served as the Senior Note and Comment Editor of the Loyola of Los Angeles International and Comparative Law Review and was actively involved in the American Bar Association, Law Student Division as a representative for Loyola Law School on a national level.
Prior to joining Hurrell Cantrall in 2004, Ms. Kumar assisted in the legal representation of abused and neglected children in Los Angeles County through her work at Dependency Court. She also worked at a prominent insurance defense firm in Orange County as an associate attorney.
Ms. Kumar currently practices extensively in both federal and state court. Her practice focuses on complex cases in the areas of toxic torts, products liability, construction defect, and government entity liability. She has successfully tried cases in both federal and state court and has obtained numerous defense verdicts, settlements, and judgments by way of law and motion practice on behalf of her clients. Ms. Kumar particularly enjoys preparing complex law and motion matters. Some examples of her recent accomplishments include obtaining a defense verdict in a federal jury trial where the plaintiff claimed he was subjected to excessive force, as well as winning a summary judgment motion in federal court where the plaintiffs claimed their civil rights were violated as a result of an unintentional and accidental shooting of the decedent.
Ms. Kumar was featured as a Southern California Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2009 and 2010.
Ms. Kumar was admitted to the State Bar of California and United States District Court for the Central District of California in 2002. In the past, she has served on the Board of Directors for the South Asian Bar Association of Southern California as the Law Student Outreach Chair. When she is not defending her clients, Ms. Kumar enjoys traveling, spending time with her family, and the fine arts. She currently resides in Los Angeles with her husband, daughter, and pet beagle.
