Ms. Markova’s legal practice has focused on defending public entities in litigation relating to the use of force, false arrest, jail conditions, malicious prosecution, state tort claims, as well as public employment and general liability.  Ms. Markova has substantial experience defending litigation brought under Section 1983, the Unruh Act, the Ralph Act, the Bane Act, in both state and federal courts.  Her experience also extends to employment claims under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Fair Employment and Housing Act, and the California Labor Code.

Ms. Markova’s extensive litigation experience includes handling cases from beginning to end, and she is intricately familiar with all aspects of discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, and appeals.  Most recently, Ms. Markova successfully defending the constitutionality of a statute under the state and federal Constitutions, which resulted in a published appellate opinion in her client’s favor.  Whether in or out of the court room, Ms. Markova has successfully represented public entities and their employees and developed strategies to achieve desired outcomes.

During law school, Ms. Markova served as a judicial extern to now retired Justice William F. Rylaarsdam of the California Court of Appeal.  She was an active Law Review member, became a published author, and graduated summa cum laude.  Ms. Markova was also awarded the President’s Call to Service and Volunteer Service Awards.
