Maria Tuason, a Partner at Hurrell Cantrall LLP, has been with the firm since 2013.  

Ms. Tuason defends both private and public entities in employment law, negligence and civil rights matters.  Her practice has been primarily focused on Fair Employment and Housing Act  claims for discrimination based on disability, race, and gender, harassment, and retaliation.  She has obtained favorable results by way of motions, dismissals, and trial. She also works closely with clients to develop case-specific strategies based on their needs.  She practices in both federal and state courts and is also a member of the Labor and Employment Section of the State Bar of California.   

Representative Matters: 

  • Defense Verdict obtained in a Fair Employment and Housing Act claim for discrimination based on age, race and gender and retaliation against a school district.
  • Summary judgment in a wrongful death matter where plaintiffs alleged the decedent was a “volunteer” instead of an employee during a physical performance test prior to his employment with a public entity. 
  • Voluntary dismissal in a dangerous condition of public property case following aggressive defense of client in the early phase of  litigation.
  • Voluntary dismissal in a failure to promote claim against an individual client who headed a civilian oversight group created by a public entity to monitor its law enforcement agency.
